Cool Girl Brands
Hello! This is my first blog post I’ve made since getting over a thousand readers here. I want to say I love all of you, and everyone here is so fucking cool. That is why I had to make a post talking about some “Cool Girl” brands I love. These are going to be brands with a quirky sense of style, amazing owners, and what makes them so unique. I am so excited to cover this topic, because despite being broke, I have such a love for all of these brands. I hope that you have some time to check them out, maybe order something cute. Now, keep in mind this is also going to be for the season. I’ll be covering tank tops, swimsuits, and just some different bold pieces that each brand is selling. Okay, let’s get shopping.
I want to start this blog off by talking about Oddli. I am absolutely obsessed with this brand, and I don’t think anyone could convince me to stop ordering their stuff. They sell the most adorable hand made tees, tanks, and swimsuits. They also just came out with this adorable bra and underwear set. Oddli is great at curating the perfect color scheme. I recently received a tank top from them. It has Vogue and Vows sewn on to the front, and the white is not too white, but this cream color. Not the kind of cream that may wash some of us out (like I). They use limited and up cycled materials, which mean that every top will be different. It always makes it exclusive. Another thing I love about this brand is that it is ethically sourced and produced right out of LA. Since everything is local, they keep fare wages and don’t mass produce. To me, that is a big deal. As I mentioned earlier everything is customizable, so if you are trying to promote one thing, like I did with my blog, then wearing it around is the perfect strategy. I recently saw a Tik Tok that one of the owners had made, and she was wearing the first shirt she ever made for Oddli. It was a long sleeve, off white, cropped top, with her name sewn into the front. She was just talking about how the first prototype being that and then it turning into such an amazing business is something she never expected. Oddli also makes a large amount of basics, but they’re those basics you keep in your closets for years like Brandy Melville. You should most certainly go check it out.
Next shop I will be discussing is Tyler McGillvary. This shop is going to be a bit on the pricier end, but go check out their website and you’ll see exactly why. This brand sells the most beautiful patterns that cannot be copied. I have fallen in love with their new collection where they have printed several different vases onto dresses, pants, tops. It is giving camp. This brand is going to be based in New York City and India. They use deadstock and do small batch production so they are not wasting thousands of pounds of clothes like several other large brands. If you take a look at the archive sale that they have going on right now, you’ll see that they tend to use bright and bold colors, which is a trend coming into 2025 again. Not saying you should follow trends, but I personally love colors, and this brand is one I don’t think you’ll see many people wearing around you. Tyler McGillvary has teamed up with several different artists and it has this beautiful rotation of patterns and cuts. This brand has been able to find the perfect blend of east and west coast vibes. They have whisky colors and flowing pieces that scream So Cal, but then the pieces are so unique that it is giving some sort of art dealer in NYC.
One of my all time favorites right here, Lisa Says Gah. Lisa Says Gah is the most beautiful brand I’ve found so far. They have a ton of amazing leather pieces, basic white tops (that AREN’T see through), and colorful sweaters, dresses, and shoes. This brand really does have it all. I feel like we need more clothing lines like this. The brands that sell everything in one place. I swear someone could build their whole wardrobe out of Lisa’s. They have this feminine, vintage style that has never been hated on. This brand is built on slow fashion principles and really preaches on ethical consumption. That is why you’ll come to find that all of these brands I’ve mentioned so far have items that you won’t be able to get rid of. I mean you can, but you won’t want to, and they’re not going to be easily worn and torn. Lisa Says Gah works with a lot of independent designers, and if you look at the manufacturers, you’ll see that they are all sustainable choices.
Next and one of the last brands I’ll be talking about… Gil Rodriguez. If you know me, you know I love the 90s’. I wish I was 21 in the year of 1992, and living my best life. I’d be old now, but who cares. Gil Rodriguez makes you feel like you’re there. They have a very vintage niche to them, with simple cuts, timeless basics, clean lines. Everything about it is cool girl. Even their website, the models, they all scream, “I AM SO COOL.” One thing I would say about this brand, is that it feels like the more expensive Brandy Melville. They do use a higher quality fabric, and are made in LA with ethical production, but a lot of these pieces you can probably find for cheaper. I am not trying to say this brand is not amazing, because I would kill to have the vibe and aura Gil does, but I also know that not all of us are able to shop ethically and pay more for sustainability. If you do have the choice though, shop here. They brought back good fitting capri leggings, which by the way, those are back. I love seeing them. Anyways, they have this beautiful tomato red color all over their site, this is the perfect place to find pieces for that capsule wardrobe we all say Emma Chamberlain talking about.
The last brand I’ll be talking about here is House of Sunny. Everyone knows and loves this brand. When I was living back up in Alaska, there was only one place that sold it, and I remember when I found that place, at least half of my paycheck was going towards their House of Sunny products. They have so many beautiful colors, my favorite is still the ombre. They use a lot of knot based items, and you will not see these pieces twice. House of Sunny is a completely unique and quirky closet. They produce in small batches and avoid seasonal waste, which is why it will be higher priced. They use eco-friendly fabrics for their polyester and cotton. House of Sunny has this crazy retro-futuristic vibe to it that throws me off a little bit, but I love it. They use a ton of funky patterns, and honestly are the epitome of “I’m classy, but I’m on vacation.” This brand has a ton of stand out pieces, and my take on it is that if you are going to buy something from here, buy something fun! Don’t go for something boring and old, but go for something you can wear on certain occasions. A statement piece if I do say so myself.
I really hope you all loved this article, I cannot wait to spend my next paycheck on all of these wonderful brands. Love!
