2025 Wardrobe Necessities

Hello 2025, I’ve heard this year we’re leaving the excessive use of bows, having Elena Gilbert outfits on your Pinterest board, and cargo pants in the past. I’m partially kidding, but what are we bringing and leaving going into the new year? What are some trends I believe are going to be big this year? What are some trends I think are going to die off by March? I don’t want to waste much time, but 2025 is the year that personal style and unique outfits are making a comeback. Maximalism will be used in a way that shows how much style you have and not a lack thereof. Now that it’s all settled, let’s get into it.

I want to start by discussing how 2025 is going to be the year of personal style. The number of viral videos I have seen discussing, “Build your personal style,” and whatnot! I believe that micro-trends will not be as talked about. Your style is supposed to be an opportunity to take a minute to find what you truly love and feel comfortable in. Start a Pinterest board now, collecting pieces that you love and that are suited to your body type. I’m tired of trying to make skinny jeans work on me, they are NOT for me! In 2025 I’m assuming that you’ll see a lot of bold colors and personal details added to many people’s “trending” outfits. My advice to build the best wardrobe for you in 2025 is to start now. Go to a Good Will and find a unique pair of bottoms, or order that pair of shoes you’ve been dying to buy, (but weren’t quite sure if they would be too loud or bold) because this year it’s all about you. You and those who inspire you. When beginning this collection, make sure to build a great base wardrobe that consists of nicely fitting tops, denim, and whatever classics you find yourself leaning toward the most. When you start to make it unique to you, this is when I would go to your favorite hometown boutique, or thrift store, or go through your grandma’s closet. A large role in this collection is your accessories. Are you someone who loves dainty rings or takes advantage of the flea market jewelry price? I can say I am the second of the two. Remember that building this personal section of your closet takes some time because you don’t want to fill it with things you find cute in the morning and dreadful in the evening. Then, build up some confidence in the fact that you’re wearing something you know not everyone may love, and strut. Now, you have your basics, your unique “personal” pieces, a good pair of earrings, and the confidence. I will be writing more about this (in an upcoming article), but this is only the first non-trend, trend that 2025 is bringing, and we have several to cover.

Next on my list of “2025 Outfit Ins,” we have high heels. I felt like these came into the light more and more as the later months of 2024 came around, but now they’ve made a full-fledged comeback. Obviously, high heels were never said to be “out," but they were also unusual to be seen with a casual outfit. So, here is where I will discuss the rise of casual heels... once again. This slightly goes along with your personal style, but we are at a point in fashion where the “rules” are blurred. Fashion has become more fluid. I’ve seen girls in a button-up vest with a pair of low-rise, Y2K-type jeans. That is what I mean by fluid. Following this statement, street style is in. You’ll often see celebrities mix oversized blazers and denim with a pair of heels. That’s one version of street style. But don’t worry, the heels are going to be those stilettos your mom wore. The new year brings new ideas, like comfortable heels. There are cushioned soles, wider heels, and a much more stable design. Finally, the reason casual heels are making such a comeback has to do with the fact that class is always on its way back up. You’ll see a large trend of old money type of outfits coming back, I guarantee it. With that being said when you throw on a pair of jeans, you can easily class it up a bit with some heels. Just make sure they match… This “in” is a mixture of early 2000s, high fashion, and comfort. Thank you, next.

Last item, trend, thing? The last topic of discussion is accessories. Who doesn’t love accessories? Okay, but let me get really specific, I’m talking scarfs, detailed bags, and necklaces. I think with personal style being such a large thing this upcoming year, we’ll notice a lot of people adding extra details to their outfits that may not have been there exactly a year before. I believe 2025 is going to be the year of really large and really tiny scarves, I don’t believe we’ll see anything in between the two. Scarves are upcoming in this trendy wave because of their nostalgia and versatility. Scarves are so versatile because they can be worn around the neck, as headbands, tied to bags, or draped around the shoulders. The way that a scarf can make a boring outfit so much more extravagant should be studied. They also add to this maximalism and layering trend we’ve all been seeing. This moves us onto your jewelry. The maximalism trend can be seen by wearing two rings on each finger, adding larger charms to your necklaces, and maybe some chunky earrings. That is IN! Earlier I mentioned how adding extra jewelry can either make you stylish or not. My advice for you is to find an outfit you like, then go on Pinterest and look up layered jewelry. Find jewelry that is suiting to one of your most worn fits. Last accessories I want to talk about is the bag you use to carry your lip gloss. I believe that the bag you choose says a lot about you. If you are wearing a plain white slip and pair that with a plain black bag. You’re boring. That plain white dress (let’s say in this scenario you have no jewelry or anything) can be made chic in two seconds with a fun patterned bag. I recently saw a yellow bag from Staud with the saying, “My ducks aren’t in a row, and one’s a pigeon.” Holy cow. I loved it! That bag would go perfectly with any plain outfit. A great place to find unique bags like that, a thrift store. You will find bags that others won’t be able to. Most of the time, they’ll be one of a kind.

So, with all of that being said, 2025 is the year of bold moves. Personal moves! Outfits that work for you and make you feel good. I want to see everyone’s outfits!
